  • Leadership Lessons from Cricket: Symbiosis Dubai’s #SYMBInspires

Leadership Lessons from Cricket: Symbiosis Dubai’s #SYMBInspires

New Delhi, November 19, 2025 — Symbiosis Dubai brought together cricket, conversation, and community spirit in a special edition of its flagship alumni-engagement series, #SYMBInspires, titled “Cricket & Beyond.” The event celebrated the power of sports to inspire leadership, teamwork, and resilience—values rooted in the Symbiosis philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “The World is One Family.”

Held on November 8, 2025, at the Two Seasons Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, the gathering united students, alumni, faculty, and leaders from both Dubai and India, strengthening Symbiosis’ ongoing mission to cultivate global connections across generations.

Distinguished Alumni Share Insights on Sport, Leadership, and Life

This edition featured two notable alumni from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune—
Vikram Sathaye, cricket presenter, author, and stand-up comedian, and Sunandan Lele, acclaimed cricket journalist and broadcaster.

Though from different batches, their shared passion for cricket and storytelling made for an engaging conversation that offered students a rare behind-the-scenes look into the world of professional sport. Their discussion highlighted how cricket mirrors life—teaching lessons in perseverance, decision-making, teamwork, leadership, and celebrating small wins.

“Cricket, like life, is never a solo sport. When one player steps out to bat, they carry the strength, belief, and spirit of the entire team. Every run reflects shared effort—the victory is never mine alone, it’s ours,” said Vikram Sathaye.

“Every leader plays the game differently; some anticipate, some execute, some inspire. Leadership reaches its truest form when you can read your own strengths as well as your team’s—and turn that understanding into collective purpose,” added Sunandan Lele.

A Proud Moment for the Symbiosis Family

Reflecting on the event, Dr. Amay Yeravdekar, Head of Off-Campus & Pune Campuses at Symbiosis International University, shared:

“It is always inspiring to see our alumni return and share their journeys. Students who once walked these halls are now making an impact across the world. #SYMBInspires allows our students to see what is possible, to learn from real experiences, and to connect with the broader Symbiosis family—gaining insights, inspiration, and perspective that no textbook can offer.”

The event was also organised and attended by Dr. Anita Patankar, Executive Director of Symbiosis Dubai, who spoke about the university’s expanding global footprint and its commitment to keeping alumni connected with the next generation. She emphasized that Symbiosis Dubai is not just an academic institution but a dynamic space where ideas, cultures, and aspirations come together.

    Fostering Community, Connection, and Collaboration

The gathering served as a meaningful networking platform, enabling students to engage with alumni, industry professionals, and university leaders in an inspiring and informal setting.

#SYMBInspires continues to grow as a platform where alumni and students exchange ideas, share lived experiences, and celebrate the shared values of the Symbiosis global community.
This edition—featuring two distinguished cricket storytellers—beautifully reflected the ethos of connection, learning, and inspiration that lies at the heart of Symbiosis Dubai.

Blue Planet to Expand in India, GCC with Novo Holdings Funds

India, 18 November 2025 – In a significant boost to Asia’s sustainability and waste management landscape, Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, a Singapore-headquartered leader in advanced waste management and upcycling technologies, has announced a strategic investment from Novo Holdings. The Denmark-based global investment powerhouse, renowned for championing planetary health and long-term environmental stewardship, is backing Blue Planet’s vision of building resilient, scalable, and circular waste ecosystems across high-growth markets.

Founded in 2017, Blue Planet has rapidly emerged as one of the most innovative players in integrated waste management. The company operates on a technology-first model, combining proprietary IP-driven solutions, data intelligence, and deep operational expertise to transform waste into high-value resources. Its diversified portfolio comprises several notable entities across multiple countries — including Zigma in India, Wah & Hua in Singapore, Smart Environmental in New Zealand, and other specialised sustainability firms — collectively delivering comprehensive solutions in landfill remediation, recycling, biofuel generation, hazardous waste processing, and e-waste valorisation.

    Strengthening a Circular, Low-Carbon Future

With Novo Holdings’ investment, Blue Planet is positioned to deepen its presence across Asia-Pacific, India, New Zealand, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The partnership comes at a crucial time, as emerging markets face rising urbanisation, escalating waste volumes, and growing pressure to adopt sustainable, circular solutions that reduce landfill dependence and carbon emissions.

The strategic funding will support Blue Planet in expanding its infrastructure footprint, enhancing technology integration across its group companies, and accelerating M&A-driven growth in priority segments. A key emphasis will be placed on developing modular, scalable waste valorisation systems capable of converting landfill materials into eco-friendly, commercially valuable products. This includes pellets, cladding, and other construction materials made from reclaimed waste, contributing to both environmental and economic sustainability.

Additionally, the collaboration will drive initiatives in carbon credit generation, ESG-focused innovations, and digital tools that enable cities and enterprises to track, optimise, and reduce their waste-related environmental impact. Blue Planet aims to use the investment to further build circular resource loops that not only minimise waste but also maximise value creation.

Leadership Speaks: A Partnership With Shared Purpose

Madhujeet Chimni, Founder and Chairman of Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, expressed strong confidence in the partnership:

“We are excited to partner with Novo Holdings, whose global sustainability expertise aligns with our vision of building scalable, responsible waste solutions. This investment strengthens our strategic expansion into Southeast Asia and GCC markets and enables continued M&A-driven growth in priority segments. It positions Blue Planet to deliver measurable social and economic impact while advancing Zero Waste to Landfill across the regions we serve.”

Prashant Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of Blue Planet, highlighted how the investment will accelerate innovation and technology deployment:

“This partnership empowers us to continue our strong focus on innovation across our platform and deploy advanced waste valorisation technologies, including converting landfill materials into high-value products such as pellets and cladding. It also supports our mission to expand sustainable infrastructure and develop data-driven circular models that reduce environmental footprints, drive resource efficiency, and create long-term value for industries and cities.”

From Novo Holdings’ perspective, the investment aligns with its commitment to advancing sustainability and planetary health across emerging markets.

Deepa Hingorani, Partner and Head of Asia, Planetary Health Investments at Novo Holdings, said:

“The rapid pace of urbanisation across Asia is intensifying the need for sustainable and context-specific waste solutions. Blue Planet exemplifies the type of knowledge-driven, impact-oriented platform that promotes resource efficiency and circularity. We are impressed by the company’s vision and execution and look forward to supporting its continued growth.”

  • AiMeD Welcomes Government’s Withdrawal of QCOs on Key Raw Materials; Calls for Next Reform on NOC Removal

AiMeD Welcomes Government’s Withdrawal of QCOs on Key Raw Materials; Calls for Next Reform on NOC Removal

New Delhi, 17 November 2025: The Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) has welcomed the Government of India’s landmark decision to withdraw multiple Quality Control Orders (QCOs) imposed in recent years on essential raw materials across polymer, plastic, textile, and chemical value chains. The reversals, notified in the Gazette on 12 November 2025, cover critical inputs such as ABS, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester fibres and other raw materials widely used by medical device manufacturers.

This policy correction follows extensive submissions by AiMeD and other industry stakeholders to the Rajiv Gauba Committee at NITI Aayog and the RIS. Industry had consistently highlighted that mandatory BIS standards for raw materials were functioning as unintended import restrictions. India does not produce many of the high‑grade polymers required for precision moulding and steel grades for making high‑performance components, and export‑quality medical devices. As a result, QCOs were forcing manufacturers to rely on lower‑grade domestic substitutes or face long delays and higher costs in accessing globally compliant inputs.

Welcoming the decision, Mr. Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, AiMeD, said:
“It’s a good decision – as the BIS licence was being used as an import restriction on plastics and steel raw materials. Technical regulations should be applied only to finished consumer goods, including medical devices, as a Make in India enabler and to protect consumers’ interests. But by not allowing us to import the right grades and quality of raw materials from Switzerland or Japan – and forcing us to buy low‑grade, low‑performance quality Indian materials that did not meet the performance needs of discerning manufacturers – we were not becoming globally competitive. We had kept our case to the Rajiv Gauba Committee at NITI Aayog and are glad the Government listened empathetically and acted on our concerns.”

The withdrawn QCOs covered a wide range of polymer and chemical intermediates that form the backbone of syringes, IV sets, catheters, diagnostic consumables, packaging materials, and other medical devices. India’s domestic supply base does not yet manufacture many of these materials at global specifications, making access to imported grades essential for ensuring product safety, performance, and export readiness.

AiMeD believes this step will ease input shortages, reduce compliance delays, lower manufacturing uncertainty, and improve India’s competitiveness in global markets. It also reflects a welcome shift toward a pragmatic regulatory approach—evaluating risk at the level of finished products rather than imposing blanket controls on upstream raw materials.

    Next Step: Removal of NOCs

AiMeD has urged the Government to now advance the next reform prioritized in its submissions to the Gauba Committee—the removal of No Objection Certificate (NOC) requirements imposed by various agencies for the import of raw materials, intermediates, and components or reimporting returned export shipments and even at various stages of putting up a green field manufacturing project. These NOCs are usually arbitrary and not backed by legislation or Executive Orders and often duplicate regulatory functions, create procedural delays, and act as non‑tariff barriers that not only weaken the Ease of Doing Business framework but also add to cost of doing business and make manufacturing less competitive or appealing option.

A streamlined system focused on regulating finished medical devices—combined with post‑market surveillance and internationally harmonised standards—will further strengthen India’s Make in India ambitions and support the growth of the domestic MedTech ecosystem.

    AiMeD’s Commitment

AiMeD will continue working closely with the Government, BIS, and relevant Ministries to advance rational, risk‑based regulations that safeguard patient safety while fostering innovation, affordability, and global competitiveness.

    About AiMeD

The Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) is the umbrella body representing over 1,800 manufacturers of medical devices across India. AiMeD works closely with government and stakeholders to strengthen India’s MedTech ecosystem, promote self‑reliance, ensure patient safety, and build global competitiveness. The association advocates for supportive policies, quality standards, and capacity building to make India not only self‑sufficient but also a global hub for affordable and high‑quality medical devices.
