What began as a passion-led initiative during the uncertainty of the pandemic has today evolved into a powerful creative movement. Founded by Boman Irani, Spiral Bound was created as a space for aspiring storytellers—individuals who had stories to tell but lacked the direction to shape them.

Over the last six years, the initiative has grown significantly, building a community of over 2,000 members and conducting 865 sessions across online and in-person formats. What sets Spiral Bound apart is not just its scale, but the overwhelming support it continues to receive from some of the most respected names in Indian cinema—voices that recognise both its intent and its impact.

Javed Akhtar beautifully summed this up, saying, “There are people in the film industry who are very successful. There are people who are very rich and famous. But he(Boman Irani) is both, and he has one more quality: credibility, which is very rare.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, Neil Nitin Mukesh shared how working with Boman Irani is something many actors aspire to. “There are some actors in the industry with whom, if you haven’t shared a screen with, your acting career feels incomplete. Boman sir is one of them. I feel lucky to have worked with him. Today, I’m here as a student—I think Boman sir for giving us this opportunity.”

For Anupam Kher, Spiral Bound represents something much larger. Speaking about the initiative, he said, “Boman ji ne film writing ke field mein ek bahut aham yogdaan diya hai. Covid ke dauraan shuru hua yeh ‘Spiral Bound’ aaj ek movement ban chuka hai. Acting aur direction ke schools hain, lekin script writing ke liye jo unhone khud se shuru kiya hai, woh kaabile tareef hai.”

He further added, “What we are seeing today is somebody’s honest effort and genuine desire to help others. The kind of respect he holds in the industry is very rare. My salute to Boman Irani.”

Filmmaker Farah Khan also appreciated the thought behind the initiative, saying, “It’s wonderful that Boman Irani, who isn’t a scriptwriter by profession, has started something like this. It creates a way for so many people who want to write.”

In an industry often driven by individual milestones, Spiral Bound stands as an effort—one that continues to be championed and celebrated by stalwarts of Indian cinema.
